Welcome to the natureandpoverty* websiteMany of the world’s poorest people depend for their daily needs on natural ecosystems such as forests and wetlands. Yet in many southern regions these ecosystems are under pressure, threatening the livelihoods of those who are already vulnerable.
To deal with this predicament, three organisations – Friends of the Earth Netherlands, the World Wide Fund for Nature Netherlands and IUCN Netherlands Committee – joined forces within the collaborative programme natureandpoverty*.
Due to the complementarity of the three organisations and their extensive international networks, the natureandpoverty* programme offered significant potential for addressing poverty from an ecosystem approach. The natureandpoverty* programme came to and end at end of 2006. On this website you can read more about the programme and the regions and themes it addressed. Under section Publications you will find our end of project publications.
Out of the natureandpoverty* programme evolved Natureandpoverty.net: a knowledge and learning network on nature and poverty linkages. Natureandpoverty.net) started its first activities in 2007 -> www.natureandpoverty.net.
Natureandpoverty.net brings together 17 Dutch conservation, developmental and research organizations and their respective extensive NGO networks in the South. The overall goal of Natureandpoverty.net is to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, impact and sustainability of interventions, with regard to the linkages between ecosystem management and poverty alleviation. It does this through optimising the exchange of knowledge and lessons rooted in practical experience in the South. IUCN Netherlands Committee (IUCN NL) functions as co-ordinating facility in this network, but seeks to share responsibilities for Natureandpoverty.net activities with its network partners and befriended organisations. Natureandpoverty.net will pro-actively reach out and seek partnerships to similar initiatives & stakeholders working on issues related to poverty and nature conservation.
